Making audio into video

I've been having some fun with the Audiogram tool created by Sparemin. It's a way to turn audio into video. Great for sharing on Facebook/Twitter, uploading to websites, or promoting an audio project like a podcast.

If you only have audio, as in the example below, it's a way to turn almost nothing into something great (with only a tiny bit of audio editing and about 30 minutes).

Combine it with other video editing tools and you can tell a good story without too much labor.

Podcasting crime

The "Crime Scene" podcast deals with sensational, particularly tragic or otherwise interesting murders — I am happy to say that I do all the conception, reporting, writing and publishing. It's pretty heavy subject matter but I am enjoying the process quite a bit.

Confirming suspicions

This piece from CT News Junkie talks about some of the reporting on John Rowland back in 2012. Rowland is on trial again, thanks to that reporting, and my name has apparently come up during trial. Here's a short excerpt:

Former campaign manager Chris Syrek said it was not until that call from a journalist that Wilson-Foley’s 2012 congressional campaign began crafting an explanation for the total of $35,000 Rowland had been paid through Apple Rehab, a nursing home company owned by the candidate’s husband Brian Foley.
The call came from New Haven Register reporter Jordan Fenster in April 2012. He was asking about Rowland, whose involvement the campaign had tried to keep quiet. Fenster was also asking whether Rowland had been paid by any company owned by the candidate or her husband.

'Leading by example'

A letter from my former publisher in which he speaks about the success we had at The Register Citizen when I was the editor there:
  • Transitioned traditional daily news product into 24-hour web-focused daily news service.
  • Integrated social media into daily news gathering, development and dissemination.
  • Increased monthly page views 130 percent to over 1.4 million consistently.
  • Increased monthly unique visitors 120 percent to over 130,000 consistently.
  • Increased print circulation 5 percent.

The Buttry Diary: Don’t be selfish on Twitter; tweeting useful information is good business

We’ve literally broken more news about the 5th District Congress race over the past five months than every other news outlet in Connecticut combined. (Kudos to Jordan Fenster … really remarkable.)

New Haven Register: Mark Boughton says he wishes he could return Lisa Wilson-Foley money

“People are innocent until proven guilty. ... When this all broke back in 2012, I went to them and asked them directly, ‘What’s the story? Is this, what we’re hearing from Jordan Fenster true? What’s the story?’” Boughton said. “And they said, ‘No, no, no, not true,’ and they maintained that all the way through two years, up until they walked into the courtroom.”
